Our topic Introductions and Product Facts are tailored to be helpful to each group.
We need to identify your group for analytical purposes so that we can develop and deliver information that works for you. You will not be asked to buy anything nor will we promote any product or topic to you.
Informed Investor is an independent interactive website that aims to reduce the complexity associated with making financial decisions. We provide topic introductions and product facts with quizzes. Our information is factual and helpful. We do not provide personal financial advice.
Informed Investor is your own financial reference library. Financial facts change frequently and we aim to offer helpful and up to date introductions to each subject. Come to us before making financial decisions and choose the subjects that will be helpful to you. It is not necessary to remember every detail, but it will be valuable for you to have a measure of your short term understanding of the subjects relevant to you, before acting. If there is a subject you think we should cover, please contact us. We welcome your feedback.
Informed Investor is free for all consumers, self directed investors and adviser directed investors.
The key information about any financial product is included in a Product Disclosure Statement (PDS) provided by a product issuer. PDSs are regulated by ASIC, and must be accurate and up to date.
Our Product Facts are extracts from current PDSs. They are accompanied by a quiz, which is independently created by Informed Investor. Apart from providing this information, we aim for constant improvement by tracking the understanding our respondents have gained at the time of reading.
To facilitate more informed financial decisions by consumers. We achieve this by deriving our entries from sources believed to be factual and updating them when there is a material change. Our registered users, who have completed a quiz, are notified of an updating by an alert. With or without an adviser's involvement this could prompt the need to review current financial plans and strategies.
We use experienced financial and related professional advisers, the media, the Thomson Reuters Australian Financial Planning Handbook and their monthly Superannuation and Financial Services Bulletin, product issuers and professional /academic articles as the basis of our introductions. It is our policy to survey the Australian Financial Planners (a LinkedIn group of 5000+ financial advisers) to contribute to our entries to ensure that we are factual and helpful.
Each entry and quiz can be completed within 10 minutes. We aim to minimise technical language. This is a small investment in being able to make more confident and informed financial decisions.
We have conducted a trial with over 150 users, and then asked them to complete a survey. There was an overwhelming confirmation (consumers and advisers) that Informed Investor supports more informed financial decisions, whether or not a financial adviser is involved. You can see the full results in our Media section.
Clients of a professional adviser should use Informed Investor as a tool to measure and track both parties' level of understanding of the client's preparedness to make more informed decisions. Our updating alerts go to both parties to aid in the delivery of proactive advice, better relationships and advice in the best interests of the client.
Yes. Informed Investor offers a 'referral service' where you can enter a postcode and information about the expertise you seek. Our database holds information about which advice providers have a licence that permits them to advise on the subject, details of individual advisers and information about their competencies and location.
